The leadership of Biafra Independence Movement and Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (BİM-MASSOB), yesterday celebrated Biafra as the 46th member -nation of Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organization (UNPO).
Recall that through the efforts of BIM-MASSOB, UNPO admitted Biafra into its fold on July 31, August 2, 2020.
MASSOB’s Director of İnformation, Mazi Chris Mocha renewed this earlier appeal to the United Nations to partner with the efforts of UNPO, to accord Biafra recognition as an independent nation.
Mocha said the population of Biafra is put at over fifty million people and the BİM-MASSOB has been struggling to actualize Biafra through a non-violence process known to the world bodies.
İn a signed press statement to mark four years anniversary of Biafra’s induction as 46th member -state of UNPO, Chris Mocha who also doubles as Senior Special Assistant to BİM, on Media and Publicity, insisted that the world body had always looked the other side when the case of Biafra was mentioned.
Also, accusing UN of double standard, he said that some smaller countries with lesser populations in Europe including East Timor with a population of 830,000 was accorded independent status on May 21, 2002.
He said in the case of Africa, particularly, Nigeria, they looked the other side because we are black people.
“Biafra is more populated, older than many of these countries and lost more human lives and properties than those countries they had granted recognition,” Mocha said.
He reminded the leadership of the UNPO to put more pressures on the UN to accord Biafra recognition as a Sovereign Nation just as the world body did to some smaller countries with lesser populations in America and Europe.
