Managing Director, Anambra Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), Chief Mike Ozoemena has expressed satisfaction over peaceful conduct recorded at the Saturday’s Local Government elections in the state.
Ozoemena who said this in a chat with newsmen at Umuzuocha hall attributed the development to what he called the proper coordination by Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) and security agencies.
He also commended the electorate for turning out in their numbers to participate in the exercise, describing the turnout as impressive.
He said: “The exercise went on well in a wonderful and peaceful atmosphere. You can see people are happy because it’s an election they expected for years.
“The turnout has been encouraging. Voters started trooping in around 9:00am. It’s not too far from what we used to have in our regular elections. They cast their votes, and seated waiting patiently to ensure their votes count.
“I’m dazed by ANSIEC performance based on the short period of preparations. As per security situation, the security agents did well. That’s why everyone is conducting themselves peacefully.”
The ASWAMA boss, however, urged aggrieved parties to sheath their swords and work with the winners to ensure good governance at the grassroots.
“Election is not war. One party must win and one Chairman and one councilor must emerge at the end of the day. We’re all brothers and should support whoever wins,” he said.
