Anambra guber: ADC’s John Nwosu condemns multiple taxation, says he would introduce technology-driven revenue system

Chief John Chuma Nwosu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the forthcoming November 8 electionChief John Chuma Nwosu, has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Anambra State’s revenue collection system through the full adoption of modern technology.

Speaking during an online interactive session with members of the Anambra State Association in the United States of America (ASA-USA), Chief Nwosu, an accomplished Information and Communication Technology (ICT) expert promised to end multiple taxation, eliminate the menace of street revenue collectors, and establish a transparent and efficient e-governance framework from his first day in office.

According to him, the current revenue collection approach in Anambra State has become a source of hardship for traders, transporters, and business owners. He described the situation as chaotic, corrupt, and unbefitting of a modern economy.

“What we have in Anambra today is a system that frustrates our people instead of empowering them. It is not revenue collection; it is revenue harassment,” Nwosu lamented.

The ADC candidate expressed deep concern over the activities of state-sponsored revenue agents, describing them as a “sad commentary” on the Governor Charles Soludo administration, which he accused of allowing excessive brutality in the name of revenue enforcement.

He cited the tragic death of Mr. Okechukwu Akaname, former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OCCIMA), who reportedly died after being attacked by operatives of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA). Nwosu described the incident as “a heartbreaking reflection of how far the system has decayed,” and vowed that such an event would never happen under his administration.

During the session, a U.S.-based medical doctor expressed dismay that nearly nine different groups currently extort money from businesses and individuals in the name of taxes. In response, Nwosu reaffirmed his determination to end multiple taxation permanently.

“Multiple taxation is a major problem in Anambra State. It has crippled many small businesses and discouraged investors. I will end it completely,” he assured.

Outlining his plans, Nwosu announced his readiness for a 100 per cent E-Government revenue system that will streamline payments, ensure accountability, and remove the need for physical tax collectors.

“Under our E-Transport system, every registered operator will pay directly online and be free from any form of harassment,” he said. “No one will be allowed to stand on the roads to intimidate or assault people in the name of revenue collection. We’ll remove them 100 per cent from the streets.”

He further explained that his technology-driven model would not only end harassment but also curb corruption, enhance data management, and make government operations more transparent and efficient.
