Hospital showers nursing mothers, babies with relief materials

It was a moment of joy and relief at St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Onitsha Anambra State when a team of Hospital management led by their Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Izunna Okonkwo visited postnatal and maternity ward where they distributed different materials to the new born babies and their mothers.

It sounded like a dream to so many newly delivered nursing mothers who suddenly saw Hospital management in their numbers storm maternity wards and began to share various baby kits and other materials fashioned for  nursing mothers.

Among the materials brought in the maternity ward were sets of chair, items for the new babies and their mothers which include, toys, hand bags, towels, blankets, dresses of different sizes, children’s cap, soap dish, among others.

Prior to the sharing of the materials, the leader of the Hospital management team, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Izunna Okonkwo expressed gratitude to God for granting them safe delivery as well as keeping their babies alive.

He explained that they came to see them on behalf of Archbishop Valerian Okeke, who is also the proprietor of St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha, as well as, Our lady of Fatima Awka Etiti, Immaculate Heart of Mary Specialist and maternity Umudioka, Water Side Holy Rosary Specialist Hospital and Maternity Onitsha, St. Martin’s Hospital Ugwuagba Obosi amongst others which he said are under the authority of Archbishop Okeke.

“We got report that some the chairs in this ward are not good and we bring new ones for you. Everything in this Hospital is imported. Our partners from Ireland through the connection of Archbishop Okeke brought these materials which we will share to you and your babies. So, it was Dr Linus and Lady Meg Offiah who procured and transported all these materials and severs other hospital equipment from Ireland, for use in our hospitals, ” Fr. Izunna said.

Speaking shortly with journalists, Fr. Eze Udo as he is fondly called said that management of St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Onitsha has a special affection for new born babies, even as he noted that the same affection is equally extended to anyone that comes to the Hospital.

According to him, it is a thing of joy for any woman who comes to a Hospital for baby delivery, adding that management does not regard such a person as someone who is sick.

” When we remember that those who become pregnant go through a lot before they eventually give birth to their babies, we rejoice with them. It is always a thing of joy that a journey started about 9 months come to a happy and successful completion. We normally rejoice with mothers and fathers whose babies comes into the world through our Hospital,”Fr. Izunna concluded.

The clergy, however, noted that the sharing of materials at the Hospital was not the first time and would not be the last time, saying that they have been sharing materials to the nursing mothers and other Hospitals within their network.

He, therefore, highlighted the reasons behind changing other furniture like chairs and providing medical equipment in the Hospital, adding that it would make work enjoyable and easier for the nurses and ensure that their health care services are optimally delivered.

Among remembers of the Hospital management team who visited the maternity ward include Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the Hospital, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Izunna Okonkwo (Eze Udo), deputy CEO, Very Rev. Fr. Kingsley Okaro, the Head of Nursing services, ledy Joy Osunkwo who was said to be among the oldest serving staff of the Hospital, among others.
