It was a seamless transition of leadership at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on Wednesday as the erstwhile Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, formally handed over to Prof. Benard Ifeanyi Odoh, who was yesterday appointed as the institution’s substantive Vice-Chancellor.
This transition, held today, October 30, 2024 at the Vice Chancellor’s office, witnessed the presence of key university figures such as Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Rev. Fr. Prof. Peter Agbonome, along with Professors Chinedu Onyeizugbe, Ken Ngwoke, Damian Chigozie Ezeonyejiaku and Isaac Nwankwo.
Also, Council member Engr. Dr. Paul Okolie and Dr. Ugochukwu Udunze were present to witness the occasion.
The University Governing Council led by Amb. Greg Mbadiwe appointed Prof. Odoh as the university’s 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor on Tuesday.
In her farewell remarks, Prof. Arinze-Umobi expressed confidence in Prof. Odoh’s capability to elevate the institution’s standing.
The new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Odoh thanked Prof. Arinze-Umobi for her contributions during her tenure and reiterated his commitment to building on the university’s progress, aiming to reshape the institution to greater heights under his leadership.
Prof. Odoh, a distinguished scholar in Applied Geophysics is the first alumnus to serve as Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
