The Student Union Government (SUG), Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra state, has presented an Award of Excellence to the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Irene Chioma Awuzie for her exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to students welfare.
The SUG delivered the award on Tuesday, June 24, when the Rector flagged off the 2024/2025 Students’ Week in the institution.
The SUG President, Giant Comrade Odumegwu Chinecherem Emmanuel, who delivered the award to the Rector, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Rector for her presence, describing her as a mother, who leads with compassion and vision. He reaffirmed the students’ unwavering support for her administration.
In her own remarks, the Rector commended the students of the institution for their cooperation and vibrancy.
She encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined, and to shun cultism and other vices that often plague tertiary institutions.
“This is your time to build the future you want. Be intentional, be visionary, and above all, remain true to your academic goals,” she advised.
As a gesture of support, the Rector donated two brand-new desktop computers to the Students’ Union Secretariat and extended additional financial assistance to ensure the success of the weeklong celebration.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Director of Students’ Affairs, Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha, praised Dr. Awuzie’s administration for ushering in a wave of transformation in the Polytechnic. He said the Rector’s leadership is indeed a blessing.
“What we are witnessing is just the beginning of a new era for Federal Polytechnic, Oko,” he said.
Present at the event were the Deputy Rector Academics, Dr. Nkiru Akabike; Registrar, Mr. Dominic Nwagwu; Chief Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba; and Bursar, Mr. Steve Uduh, among other dignitaries.
