Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has declared that he is better prepared to lead Nigeria in 2027, citing his background in business management and finance as a major strength.
Obi said he possesses the experience required to tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges, arguing that no other aspirant can match his record of building a business from the ground up and growing it into a large corporate enterprise.
He spoke during an interactive X Space engagement where he responded to questions from Nigerians across the country.
According to him, addressing Nigeria’s economic problems would significantly reduce insecurity, as both challenges are closely linked.
“I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President. I am a finance person and I know how to manage finance,” Obi said.
He assured that under his leadership, small businesses and manufacturers would thrive, stressing that such enterprises are the backbone of economic growth in developed economies.
Obi also dismissed speculations that he was aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition to serve as a running mate to another presidential hopeful.
“I will be on the ballot in 2027,” he insisted.
While reaffirming his support for the ADC coalition, Obi said his involvement dates back to its formative stages, adding that cooperation and openness were essential to solving Nigeria’s problems.
“None of us can predict tomorrow. Let us enter the coalition with an open mind. We can’t solve Nigeria’s problems by bullying, but by putting the right people in charge. Tomorrow is dynamic; we will work with others in the coalition,” he said.
The former governor also appealed to his supporters to avoid insults, violence and confrontations with political opponents, even when provoked.
He made the appeal while responding to a complaint from an “Obidient” supporter in Akwa Ibom State over alleged insults and name-calling by some ADC coalition leaders.
“All the insults do not bother me. If calling me stupid or an idiot will solve Nigeria’s problems, I am ready to go to court and change my name to ‘Obi Stupid’,” he said.
Obi further urged his supporters to respond to falsehoods with facts, engage opponents through healthy debate, and pray for those who attack them verbally, stressing that respect and truth remain central to his political philosophy.
