The Anambra state Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam has reiterated the Command’s commitment in enforcing the law and ensuring public safety as 2024 Imoka festival kicks off.
The CP gave the warning following information the Command said it received overtime on how miscreants under the guise of celebration of the Imoka Awka festival become unruly and made life unbearable for people of the state especially residents and indigenes of Awka.
The CP issued the warning, according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) when he invited some organizers of the cultural festival comprising the Speaker of Eze Ezu Awka Community, the Palace Secretary of Eze Ezu, the youth leader, and other stakeholders in Awka to his office.
He warned criminal elements to desist forthwith from anything that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
The CP was concerned that for a festival of such magnitude billed to start tomorrow, May 28, 2024, the community did not formally inform the Command but he urged them to work with the Police to make sure the celebration goes hitch-free.
He encouraged residents alike especially the Awka indigenes to be law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious at all times.
The CP has directed the deployment of officers to intensify confidence-building and crime prevention patrols in some identified areas in Awka.
“In the event to request security services call us on 07039194332 or PRO 08039334002 for a prompt response. The ‘npf rescue me app’ is also available for free download on both Android and Apple IOS, for Android and iPhone users respectively, “the PPRO added.
