Easter: Archbishop Okeke celebrates with Onitsha inmates, urges faith in resurrection

The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Valerian Okeke, marked the 2026 Easter celebration with inmates at the Onitsha Correctional Centre.

The event, held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Chaplaincy within the facility, drew a large gathering of both Catholic and non-Catholic faithful.

In his homily titled “Understanding the Resurrection,” the Archbishop urged Christians to embrace faith, cautioning against doubt like that of Thomas.

He described Christ’s resurrection as a victory for humanity and prayed for believers to overcome life’s challenges.

Representing the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, the Anambra State Controller of Corrections, Anselm Ike, commended Archbishop Okeke for his continued support and generosity towards inmates.

Chaplain of the facility, Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Okpalaugo, praised the Archbishop’s commitment, noting that inmates always look forward to his visits.
Items distributed during the visit included toiletries, food items, and other relief materials.
