Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka have uncovered an eight-month-old missing person case, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect, Chukwudalu Ezeani, in connection with the alleged murder of his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, aged 52.
A statement from the Anambra State Command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said preliminary investigations shows that the incident reportedly occurred on August 1, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m. at the deceased’s residence in Afube Village, Amichi, Anambra State.
The suspect is alleged to have killed the victim and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for several months.
The case was initially reported as a missing person incident at the Amichi Police Station. However, following credible intelligence, detectives reopened the investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation and subsequently led operatives to the burial site, where the remains were exhumed.
The body has been deposited for forensic examination, while the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to justice and urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
